Dealing with Setbacks

I am going to be the first to say that I do not do well when plans change.  I am not sure what it is about me but I tend to be very organized, very plan oriented, and when things go awry I do not tend to handle it as well as I should.  This is NOT a great quality when you have children but it is one I know about myself and have dealt with over the years.

So, I have been running again with my kiddos on their bikes and it was so nice to be enjoying the nice weather and getting the kids out of the house.  Then right when I am about to increase my distance some in working toward a half marathon, I get hit with the flu.  I haven't taken a flu shot since I was teaching and I believe this is the first time I have ever had the flu and let me tell you, it stinks!  My husband has had me quarantined to our room so that I don't infect the rest of the household.  The kids are on preventative Tamiflu and I am hoping that keeps them from getting it at all since they have been with me pretty much 24/7 lately so if I was exposed then they were as well.

Thankfully, we tend to have pretty strong immune systems and don't tend to get sick often but this is pretty irritating just when I was starting to feel stronger again.  I am trying to keep myself going by knowing that I have plenty of time to get endurance back by the time it is time to officially train for the half I am going to sign up for in October.  I have my fingers crossed that the next time I write it will be because I am feeling a thousand times better and I am ready to get out and run again!
